I've read one or two - I liked them, although enough to pick them up if I saw them in a cahrity shop, and not to chase down, if you know what I mean.
And, ha, I've only read a later book. Maybe in early ones they sit on a bench by the river. I'm sure they are the Spooks person - I had a feeling when I saw the name that they were the one people had mentioned as getting published, and then when I realised they'd used Ruth and Harry, I laughed.
