September seems to be shit month at work at the moment. It's just all been going down at once and involving everything going wrong, leaving late and working at weekends. Yesterday I worked from 9am to 3pm with just a short break for lunch and draping the washing.

I did then use Facetime for the first time yesterday. It turns out to be a bit crap and Skype is better.

Missy is definitely an old lady (she's two next month): she's like herself, only more so. Also, when hamsters get old they drink more and therefore wee more (hamster wee smells, but the poo doesn't). This is definitely currently true of Missy. The worst thing is her tendency to wee where her food store is, so I keep throwing away wet food.

Missy on the sofa

She did turn actually use her brain the other day. A couple of weeks ago when I was cleaning her out, she pouched her food store and left it in her secret food store under my desk drawers that she doesn't think I know about. After I threw away some wet food and she didn't have much left, she went and fetched some from under my desk and put it in her cage.

Aside from attempting (and failing) to keep up with the week's TV and podcasts, I've also been writing. I'm not doing any other ficathons this year aside from Yuletide, so I've been trying to keep writing, because it's hard to start again, once you stop. Also, I had an idea for a long (for me) fic. I currently have 4500 first draft words, some ideas for the next few scenes and only a vague idea of how it's going to end. I am enjoying writing it, so I almost don't care if I actually finish it.

Did you know, that in the middle of the planks of laminate flooring is wool-like wood? Neither did I, until Missy half-demolished the one by the back door. She thinks it'll get her out of the back door. Occasionally she tries chewing the door too, but since it's plastic she doesn't get very far with it.It's the reason why my back door mat has a corner taken out of it. And why she's now working on the opposite corner, since I turned it around. The trouble is that she thinks anything put in her way is just a challenge to be overcome…

She's also gone off the cornflake-like pieces in her food. They used to be her favourite. With the other bits she's not keen on, she just leaves them in her food store and eats the bits she likes best first. Which seems to include bits of sweetcorn - I keep finding half-eaten bits of it buried everywhere. But with the cornflakes, she leaves them in her food bowl. Until yesterday, she was taking them off me, if I offered one to her. But yesterday I gave her one, she took it, thought about it, then dropped it.

She has yet to learn that just because she wants something, doesn't mean she'll get it.

I've been reading some Chalet School books recently, which I will post about on Wednesday. They really made me want to get back to Lynda Day at the CS. Although the trouble with that is I know how it starts, I just don't know how it goes on from there (aside from not what I wrote in the first draft).

For Unconventional Courtship I really wanted to write a pairing from a different fandom every time I did it. I was thinking of writing Harry/Ruth next because a bit of undercover stuff could fit well with a summary. But there's been a few things recently that have made me want to write Tarrant/Dayna, despite having written Tarrant/Servalan/Avon for the first Unconventional Courtship. I think the trouble is that Tarrant/Dayna fit the ridiculousness of the whole thing well.

What all this thinking about writing means is that I'm too busy for writing. But more awake and less dizzy than I was. We'll see how long it lasts.

Busy

Feb. 12th, 2017 03:17 pm
paranoidangel: PA (PA)

This week has been busy. I had one of those weeks where I was out Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Monday I went food shopping and Wednesday I played with Missy until I was struggling to keep my eyes closed. So Friday I watched TV and played with Missy and that was pretty much all I had the energy for.

I have three more of those weeks between now and Easter. But this week is half term, so I have nothing at all on any evening.

An I have my hetswap fic to write. I started late because I had Chocolate Box treats to finish. I now have three first drafts of my hetswap fic - I hope the third time is the charm because if I don't get it finished this week I'll be back to having no time to do it in.

And after that, no more exchanges for a bit. I want to be able to write for myself, talk about what I'm writing and not have to have this unbreakable deadline. And work on my WIPs. I have signed up for the Doctor Who Minor Characters Ficathon, but I am writing one of my WIPs for it and it's not the end of the world if I miss the deadline - as evidence by last year when I finished my fic about six months after the deadline.

Things

paranoidangel: PA (Default)
On Wednesday I sneezed and made my pulled muscle worse. And then on Friday it was suddenly so much better. At first I thought switching from paracetamol to ibuprofen had made the difference, but then it never got more painful after that.

I have had a busy weekend, getting lots of things done. I learnt that hoovering with my left hand hurts just as much as hoovering with my right, but hoovering with both was better. I went to the pet shop and wanted to take all the rabbits home. Especially one that came to see me when I spoke to them, and then licked the glass.

I bought Missy a toy that hangs up and has wooden things on it. It's the sort of wood she likes chewing, but she's spent most of her time with it on the string - she doesn't like hanging things, she always takes them down. It's safety pinned to the sofa, so it'll take her a little while as she can't spend the whole night working on it.

I got my Public Call fic done, which was just as well given that the deadline is this evening. I've also finished my Yuletide fic, for a given value of finished, given that I keep tinkering with it.

And I've started rewatching The West Wing. Since my pulled muscle means it hurts to laugh I had to find something that wasn't funny. And since I've been watching a lot of funny stuff on catch up, I keep using up my internet, so it had to be something I didn't need to stream. I've been wanting to rewatch The West Wing since I introduced my parents to it a few years ago and then caught an episode when I was home one weekend. I keep racing through it, partly because there's not a lot on at the moment, partly because I want to get to the bits I vaguely remember, but don't know when they are (and I am avoiding episode guides because I don't want to know in advance).

It was only after I started that I looked at my DVDs and thought that I should have considered The Bill - I have quite a few DVDs of half hour episodes from the 80s that I haven't watched. Or The Avengers - I have all the Emma Peel episodes and I've seen all the ones 'in color' but I can't remember which black & white ones I've seen. But now I've started The West Wing, I'll finish it first.

Of course this week has been tennis. I am disappointed that they won't show the doubles (of course) or the evening matches, and that Jamie and Bruno got knocked out in the semi-finals. But it is exciting that they're the number one doubles team this year. And Andy is the number one singles player this year. There's just the match in a couple of hours to decide who ends up number one in the rankings. I am hoping for a Murray victory of course, but I'd like either a decisive Murray win or a very close match with either winning. And come February there'll be another round of Murray vs Raonic when we play Canada (away) in the Davis Cup.

I think my cold might finally be getting better. Although this might be because last night I felt awful. And this morning I don't feel like my face is going to explode from the pressure.

It's been frustrating - I thought this week I'd get lots of things done around the house. Maybe even get the spare room cleared so I can get to things. I did drop off a load of stuff at the charity shops, so I can now get to the curtains even with washing drying on the airers in there, which is a definitely improvement. But that's about all I've had the energy to do really. The house needs cleaning and that's not done, but since I'm the only one who'll see it, it can wait.

I had thought about going swimming this weekend, but obviously that's not something you can do with a cold (even if I had the energy to).

But it has been nice to just sit on the sofa, play on the internet, watch TV and read, and have it feel like it was endless. It's not though: I have to go back to work tomorrow.

In amongst that I've been enjoying writing. It makes a change not to be trying to fit it in around everything. The evenings that I'm in I only have about an hour free, in between dinner and Missy. So I can either write or watch TV or read forums or reply to emails etc. It's pretty much just one of those and not all. Then at weekends I try to get a lot of other stuff done. I used to sit down in the evenings and write then, but that doesn't work so well now I have Missy.

Although it doesn't feel like I've been productive, because I'm still living in a bit of a mess, I have got myself ahead on Public Call and Yuletide. If I can get them (mostly) done before things get busy in the evenings (the week after next - everything stops for half term next week) and before things get busy at work (late November, probably) then I won't have to worry about them when I don't have time to do them. And will maybe have more time for treats when things calm down (about a week before Christmas).

This week I am on holiday from work. I haven't gone away anywhere, the plan was to go out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and stay home and recover/get things done the other days.

It started out well: Monday we went to Windsor Castle, which was good, but tiring. Tuesday I got a cold, but was still going. Wednesday we got up early to do a tour of the Bodleian Library (very interesting) and Oxford Castle (fun!).

Thursday my cold was worse, today it's even worse and since my friend is also ill, we ended up not going anywhere today. Being ill on holiday is crap because I'm not going anywhere and I'm not getting a lot done. But it beats working, which would just wear me out more.

Being in today meant I got some writing done. I have more words on my Yuletide fic, although some of them are: stuff goes here. I did some canon review for my Public Call fic and have written the first draft. And I finished off my DW Minor Characters ficathon fic:
At Last a Dragon (983 words) by paranoidangel
Fandom: Doctor Who
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: John Chesterton, Tenth Doctor
Summary: John Chesterton doesn't believe in Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy or the Doctor.

(And yes, I did steal the title from an episode of Press Gang)

Writing

Oct. 18th, 2016 06:07 pm
paranoidangel: PA (PA)

I kept meaning to post, but I seem to either be busy or recovering from being busy. But I have crossed off quite a bit on my to do list.

The other thing I've been doing is writing. My Femslash fic is pretty much finished, aside from beta changes. And coming up with a title. I think the latter will be harder...

For Yuletide I got the fandom I was hoping I would. And then immediately wondered why I signed up for it because I couldn't possibly write it. And I didn't know what to write. I now have two bits of scenes and a vague idea of a plot and some notes for bits that'll come later.

But Public Call is due first, although the assignments for that only went out Sunday night. I had been looking at the signup summary to guess what relationship I might get. And then when I got my assignment, realised that I know more characters than the ones I signed up for and can in fact write a relationship I didn't sign up for. Which didn't help decide what to write... But then I woke up earlier than I needed to on Monday morning and now have a (very rough) idea of what I might write. Which is a start, at least.

And this is all much more writing than I've done all year, pretty much. It has done what I'd hoped and spurred me on to work on some of the (many) things I've started this year and next and not finished. I keep feeling like my writing is crap, so first drafts are fine, as they're supposed to be crap, but finishing things off, not so much. Even having had lovely comments on some (older) things with people saying how much they like it doesn't help. It just makes me think that I could write once, but can't any more. And by definition people can't say my current stuff is good because I don't have any current stuff that's finished.

But I have nearly finished my [info]dw_guestfest fic. It's only six months after the deadline and two months after the summer mini-round, but still a lot further than I thought I'd get two months ago. Maybe I'll even finish it...

paranoidangel: PA (PA)

After not writing for so long it's been so hard to get back into it. I thought writing something earlier in February would help with the not writing for a bit after Yuletide, but it really didn't.

I wrote something for Obscure & British:
Eaten by a Dinosaur (264 words) by paranoidangel
Fandom: Press Gang
Characters: Lynda Day, Colin Mathews
Summary: The accounts really have been eaten by a dinosaur.

Despite it being less than 300 words it still took me three days and four drafts. Which is how I ended up only writing that one (well, so far).

It didn't really kickstart me into writing anything, but I gritted my teeth and I now have complete first drafts for my Unconventional Courtship fic and my NPT fic. They are terrible. One of them has a sentence that basically says: Stuff happens that I can't be bothered to write. One of them has 700 words, about 500 of which are rambly because I didn't know where it was going. But they have words. They have a beginning, a middle and an end. I have until Wimbledon starts to improve them...

Things

Apr. 24th, 2016 08:20 pm
paranoidangel: PA (PA)

One day I will update more often. This week has been crazy. Our department of six at work was pretty much reduced down to me for some of the time. By the time I went food shopping on Thursday I was going round there like an old lady because I was too tired to think. Hopefully things will calm down after the bank holiday weekend.

Missy is good for stress, though. You can't think about work (or anything else) while playing with her. Mainly because she has no fear and I have to be ready to catch her. In the past three evenings she's fallen off me/the table four times. I have caught her every time. She's never at all worried about this - and even when she ends up on the (hard) floor she just thinks it's somewhere interesting to explore - but fortunately she is easily lured away by food.

I need work to calm down so I can attempt to get back to writing. Apart from the things I've had half-written on my hard drive for a while, I also have my [info]dw_guestfest to finish before next year's fest. I signed up for [info]unconventionalcourtship to write a Sarah/Harry fic, as I found a great prompt after last year's fest. But I had to do research as it felt like so long since I've written them! And then I'm currently contemplating my sign up for [info]not-primetime. I really want to do it, I just can't narrow down when I want to write and receive.

paranoidangel: PA (PA)

[info]dw_remix is all over for this year. There were only three stories in the end, but the three people that finished seemed to have enjoying writing them, which is what matters. Next year I might just not bother with sign ups for people wanting to write remixes and people can write or not write. Less work all round.

I took a happy Twelfth Doctor and Missy fic by IrishVampire13: Cheek to Cheek and made it into a darker Twelfth Doctor and Missy fic: The Doctor Dances (Lucky Streak Remix). Having Missy in the first two episodes of this series helped rather a lot (and was why I chose that story to remix).

I managed to finish the first draft of my [info]sga-secretsanta fic! I'm quite impressed that it's 1600 words, but will get longer considering that I need to add the description and expand bits that say things like 'they went investigating and found x'. Not very exciting as it currently is. But at least the plot is there, making it less terrible should (in theory) be less hard.

I have my Yuletide assignment to do as well. And it would be nice to write some treats. And finish off some of the fic I have sitting around half-finished or half-started. But we'll see. Not least one of the things we'll see is how busy work gets.

paranoidangel: PA (PA)

Next year, if I think signing up for SGA Secret Santa is a good idea, someone shoot me. This year has gone pretty much the same as last - I enjoyed re-watching episodes of it and then when it came to it, really struggled to write something. I still have just over two months left and I have just about managed to come up with a plot. And by just about, I mean I managed it last night. I've had the assignment for over a month. And I am writing this because I'm supposed to be writing the first draft of that. My first drafts are always terrible, but this one is going to be especially terrible.

On the plus side, I managed to write something for [info]dw_remix, which went more smoothly. But I am very glad I set the minimum word count at 500 words, because I don't think I could have managed 1000.

I looked at my Yuletide sign up and wondered if I should take any characters or fandoms off my offers list. But the way I am feeling about my writing at the moment, I don't think I can write any of them. So I left them all on.

I'll feel better once I've got something finished - I have all sorts of half-started and half-finished things lying around. And the busy season coming up at work. This week is half term, so no ballet or choir. So I really ought to be able to get lots of writing done. And catch up on some TV. And some reading. And some spring cleaning...

paranoidangel: PA (PA)

Well, not all that sudden, really. But I have a Sarah & Harry fic to finish by the end of the month for [info]onlyonebed, which is almost finished. There's The Librarians sword fighting fic, which isn't for anything, so doesn't have a deadline, but I ought to get it done.

I started a treat for [info]shipswap (which I have not signed up for). By the time I'd finished the first draft I was questioning whether it would be something the recipient would like. But I will finish it and see what I think (and whether it's by the deadline).

Then today I signed up for [info]dw-guestfest to write Kate Stewart and Rachel Jensen being awesome together and saving the world from science. Re-listening to some Counter Measures and re-watching the relevant bits of Doctor Who was such a hardship. I know how I'm going to get them in the same time (and place) and back again, but not what they're going to save the world from or how they're going to do it.

I also signed up for [info]unconventionalcourtship to write this:

What happens in Vegas…is even hotter in London!
After a fling in Vegas that was so wild even she can't believe it happened, copywriter Lynda Day has finally gotten her mojo back. Time to get back to London and win that promotion!
But things veer catastrophically off course when her new coworker Spike Thomson saunters in… and he's much too familiar. Even worse, Spike and Lynda will be competing for the promotion — and he's just as good in the boardroom as he was in bed! So what's a girl to do when Mr One Night becomes Mr One-Desk-Away? Stand her ground, of course — if there's going to be a war, she's going to make sure she enjoys it!

Although I've yet to decide if I'm going to change Vegas to some other place or Lynda's job. But I chose the summary so I wouldn't have to AU it - so their fling is not a total out of the blue moment.

And then I'd like to do [info]rarelywritten. But sign ups aren't open yet, so I can see where I am with everything else before I sign up.

So all that will keep me busy.

New fandom

Feb. 8th, 2015 07:27 pm
paranoidangel: Flynn swordfighting (Flynn swordfighting)

I currently have one finished story and two started ones for The Librarians. Back when Fandom Snowflake was going on and I'd started watching it, I thought I could maybe write something for the challenge of doing something in a new fandom. But I dismissed it because I didn't have any ideas. At least, I didn't at the time...

I might have found a new fandom (because I never quite let go of old ones, I need new ones like a hole in the head). And another American ones means needing to write in American :( Although on the plus side, at least I don't get annoyed by all the rampant Americanisms in fanfic (unless they're being said by any of the non-American characters - but then I don't really read those characters). I think it could be a fairly popular fandom - at least if it gets another season. Or it's just a desperate fandom. The story for it that I posted a couple of weeks ago is my most kudosed story on AO3. Even though I didn't post it for a ficathon. And it's not in the top ten of hits.

It is, for me, yet another gen fandom, judging by the stories I've started so far. There is, perhaps, more of a desperation for gen. There are more stories marked with the most popular pairing than there are marked gen - and on the first page I could see two stories that were marked both shippy and gen (which I would think are mutually exclusive).

It all seems very weird to me, coming from a culture of 'if you don't post it on LJ in a relevant community or for a ficathon, no one reads it'. The fandom seems to be on Tumblr, from what I can make out. I considered joining Tumblr to interact with it, until I read stuff on searches on it and established that everyone either is a teenager or sounds like one. So I think I'll stay in my nice little bubble. And keep writing the gen (plus this one pairing I don't ship and there's no fic for but is fun to write. No, I don't know either).

Real life

Jan. 13th, 2015 08:42 pm
paranoidangel: PA (PA)

A break from fandom snowflake stuff for some real life TM. Mainly because I came over dizzy last night for no reason. I'm not that bad - I made it into work and worked all day - but can't be doing with too much thinking. It's really frustrating because I was doing really well after a rest at Christmas and I definitely haven't overdone it. What's really annoying was that I was going to go and play board games tonight. But now it'll have to wait for two weeks.

Fortunately on Sunday I finished the first draft of Lynda Day at the Chalet School. It's 1800 words off the minimum length, but given that, on a read through, I can see more that needs adding than needs taking out, I don't think that will be a problem.

I've been watching Broadchurch (spurred on to watch the first series by the second starting last week). The westcountry accents are great, David Tennant said "mudder" which is a pronunciation you want to hear from all Scottish detectives (unless perhaps you are Scottish), and the scenery's very nice. Also there is bonus Jack Meadows. However, after five episodes they are nowhere near working out whodunnit and so far pretty much all that's happened is someone's been murdered. I think it's supposed to be a drama rather than a murder mystery, which explains why it takes them four times as long as Lewis to solve it. It is slow, though.

On a less slow, less depressing note, I started The Librarians, which [info]hhertzof recommended to me. It's made by the people who did Leverage (which [info]hhertzof also recommended to me). So far I've only seen two episodes, but I knew I'd like it after the first scene. It involves worryingly clever people, libraries and magic. And Christian Kane, who seems to be on a contract with these people, or something. And various other people I recognised but needed to go to imdb to find out why (the same could be said of Broadchurch in this regard).

I spent a lot of my weekend on house-related stuff. It's amazing the number of reviews you can read on curtain poles and how reluctant I am to buy from ebay sellers with 'only' 99.7% good feedback. I did buy a shower curtain. The old one was a bit tatty and falling off and plasticky. Also, vaguely blue, which doesn't do much for my colourless bathroom. The new one is fabric and colourful and I've put it on so that it goes all round the bath, rather than just halfway up. At some point I will take photos of my house, once it's tidied and I've made a few improvements.

paranoidangel: PA (PA)

It's been quite weird this week, not going anywhere. I get home, have dinner, read emails/RSS feeds/forums etc, get to 8pm and then wonder what to do for the rest of the evening. Which you'd think would mean that I'd got through lots of things on my to do list and caught up on my viewing, but you'd be wrong. I don't quite know what I did now, but I don't seem to have achieved much.

I do have 1500 words of a first draft for my [info]unconventionalcourtship fic. I challenged myself at the beginning of the year to write at least 2000 words for everything this year because 1000 words or less is easy. At first I was wondering how to actually get the fic to go anywhere because the characters would just keep bantering, until I realised they can banter and pull the plot along at the same time. And then, when I thought of an ending, I realised it's merely the mid-point. The main thing is that I've really enjoyed writing it. I've hardly written any Blake's 7 because I always thought it would be hard (plus there wasn't anything I was especially keen to write) but I like writing banter and they do all do quite a lot of banter. I like it, I should write more!

Redemption is next weekend. Since the last one two years ago I've regained the ability to eat eggs and mushrooms. So the thing I am most excited about is eating fried egg at breakfast. The silly thing is that although I like eggs, I've got so used to not eating them that I just don't eat them. But there's nothing quite like a good fry-up. Hopefully Redemption 2011, where nothing went wrong, will have broken the curse where something went wrong every one since 2005, including becoming lactose intolerant at Redemption 2005 and getting dizzy the day after Redemption 2009.

This week

Apr. 28th, 2012 01:44 pm
paranoidangel: PA (PA)

This week has mostly consisted of rain. And the fun yesterday of tipping out the puddle of water collected in my bin because the binmen persist in leaving the lid open after they've emptied them. And the even more fun of spending five minutes on Wednesday morning trying to get the garage door open long enough to get inside. How it eventually stayed open long enough to get the car out (and closed once I had) I don't know. But after that my car had to spend a couple of nights outside in the rain because there's only so many times I can do that.

I've also been reading Remix stories. I'd entirely forgotten what mine was, I finished it so long ago. Now I've been reminded about it I want to talk about it, but can't do that until the authors are revealed tomorrow/Monday. But someone remixed a Doctor Who/SJA crossover fic I wrote last year as New Horizons (the Doctor in the House Remix). It's got a whole load of great Sky characterisation in it. And I really want to know who wrote it and whether some of the references in it were because they know me, they read the fandoms list on my website or coincidence.

I have also been working on the second draft of my Big Bang fic. After I wrote the first draft I realised the plot makes no sense and it's not spaced out well at all. So I spent time re-working it, with tables to work out who does what in response to what. Hopefully, when I finish the second draft and read it through it won't be too bad and I'll just need to go back and sort out the words, rather than the plot. Not least because I'm also intending to sign up for [info]not-primetime/[info]not_primetime and the deadline is Wimbledon. My deadline for myself for getting my Big Bang to beta is Wimbledon. Which really isn't that far away...

paranoidangel: Harry commenting on fic (Harry commenting on fic)

I have finished my Yuletide fic. And uploaded it. After I had it opened and the form filled in for ages while I tried to think up a summary (the title on the other hand came quite easily). I usually try to get it finished early, but I don't generally manage quite this early. The difference this year is that work hasn't been so busy for so long and I haven't had Rotaract. Usually I'd be dealing with our stall at the Christmas fair at the start of December, Cheese & Wine in January, various Christmas dinners and all the usual Rotaract stuff. It's actually been a quiet time of year, which makes a nice change.

Next I have six [info]fandom_stockings to write. And I've signed up to write a 2000-5000 word Five Things fic for [info]fivetimesbb. That's 400 words a thing it can't be too hard, can it? (famous last words). The current working summary for it is Five songs Johnny Chess wrote based on the stories his parents told him of their adventures with the Doctor in the TARDIS.

Along the same lines, but not involving actual writing, I am reccing for [info]calufrax the first week in January. I know there were fics I wanted to rec last time but had to narrow it down. If only I'd written them down...

Of course, there's still Yuletide Treats. I haven't decided if I'm going to write any of those yet.

paranoidangel: PA (PA)

I have been good this weekend and got some writing done - namely my story for [info]lotr_community, which was due in today. There was only two weeks to write it and I spent the first week writing [info]fandom_stocking fics, and then second week working. But now it is done. The stories won't get revealed until tonight (or it might be tomorrow night, now I come to think of it) so I can't post it until then.

But I have posted a Jack & Elizabeth (Stargate Atlantis) fic: The Blue Devil. I wrote the first draft of it in December 2009. Then was too busy to write more for a few months, but managed to finish it off. Then [info]tanaqui was too busy to beta it for a few months, but it was worth the wait. So then I somehow managed to come up with a title a couple of weeks ago. Now I've got round to posting it. Although I can't for the life of me work out why/how I came up with that title. Oh, well.

Now I need to finish some other stuff I've started. I decided, in order to help me finish stuff to join [info]fanbingo. There's no deadline on it, but my challenge to myself is to fill it this year. My card looks like this.

I'm also quite tempted by Big Bangs. There's an LOTR Big Bang starting this year at [info]lotrgficbigbang and I do have a story starring Arathorn and Gilraen that I started a long time ago and pretty much needs starting again. It might be long enough, but I think I need more time to get back into that way of writing. So maybe next year.

There's also the [info]tardis_bigbang. For the first week of [info]picowrimo I wrote about 1000 words a day of a DW story. It needs a lot of re-writing and I'm not halfway through, so I could finish that. Except that the TARDIS Big Bang doesn't give enough time for writing, so I would have to start now probably.

And looking at this Jack & Elizabeth story again reminded me that I have a plot written down starring the two of them that would be a crossover between all three Stargate series and could well be long enough for a Big Bang. The [info]scifibigbang is for Science Fiction and Fantasy, so all three of my ideas could be eligible for that. And based on last year's dates, it could be enough time for me to write something.

Decisions, decisions....

I've been home for a few days to see the cat, who is crazy. And very naughty. I get a few things done, then have to stop to play with the cat. He particularly likes paper. He takes it off to play with - no idea why but it keeps him happy. He also likes having a ping pong ball thrown up the stairs for him to chase. Or often for me to chase because he's just sat there and watched it. There are photos of him, some of them are new.

I have managed to change my blog about a bit to get rid of some of the crap I had down the sidebars, and only have one sidebar, so it doesn't look so cramped and busy any more. And discovered while I was doing it that my tag cloud didn't display. It does now. And I did my Remix reviews for Sel's website, which would have been so much easier if I'd done them at the time and not had to re-read them...

Writing-wise I have looked a bit prolific lately. Partly because I actually got off my arse and wrote stuff this month. I managed to write something for [info]lotr_community: The Ghosts of Men about the Dead Men. I got my fic in for [info]intoabar early: The Magic Ring where Maria Jackson unexpectedly finds herself in Rivendell. And I wrote an episode tag for SJA: Death of the Doctor by starting it before the episode was broadcast: The Importance of Family starring Jo.

For November there's [info]picowrimo which is a mini Nanowrimo where you set your own goals. I haven't had the energy to do it the past few years, but this year I am going to finish my Four, Sarah and Harry end up in present day UNIT fic that I started a long time ago. I thought that after that I'd done every combination of Sarah and Harry fic, until I thought of two more I could write. So it seems not. And then there'll also be Yuletide, of course, but by the time the assignments have gone out and I've done some research it'll be late November by the time I start writing that.

Writing

Having effectively taken September off writing, it's been really hard to get back into it. I thought signing up to write the monthly prompt at [info]lotr_community and signing up for A Ficathon Walks into a Bar ([info]intobar) would do it, but then I just couldn't get started. I eventually managed to start my ficathon walks into a bar story by giving myself permission not to do my [info]lotr_community story if I couldn't manage it (on the basis the LOTR one was due first).

So then I had a busy week and didn't get much done. But I managed to sit down this weekend and finish them both off. So now I am all ready for [info]picowrimo and Yuletide. As long as I'm not ill like last year.

Is there anyone willing to beta a 300 word fic, which is basically a series of three drabbles? It's due next weekend and features no named characters and is about the Dead Men (the ones that live on the Paths of the Dead).
